What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign straightens your teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners instead of metal braces. At Horton Family Dental in Fort Collins, Dr. Horton offers Invisalign for adults who want a straighter smile. Each set of aligners moves your teeth a little, and you switch to a new set about every one to two weeks.

It all starts with a consult. Come in, let Dr. Horton take a look, and you’ll know whether Invisalign is a good fit before you commit to anything.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Your aligners are made from a 3D scan of your teeth, so they fit snugly and move your teeth in small steps.

Here’s how it goes:

We scan your teeth with our iTero scanner. No goopy impression trays.
You see the 3D scan of your teeth on screen with Dr. Horton
Your aligners are made from that scan to fit your teeth
You switch to a new set about every one to two weeks
You come in for check-ins so Dr. Horton can see how things are moving

Wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, including while you sleep. Take them out to eat, to drink anything other than water, and to brush.

Is Invisalign Right for Me?

What it can help with

Invisalign works for a lot of common problems, like crowded teeth, gaps, and some overbites. Some cases need more than aligners can do, and that’s what the consult is for. Dr. Horton will look at your teeth and X-rays and tell you straight whether Invisalign makes sense for you.

What Is It Like to Wear Invisalign?

The aligners are clear, so most people won't notice them.

A few things to know:

They come out when you eat, so there's no list of foods to avoid
You brush and floss the way you normally do
A new set can feel snug for the first day or two. That's the aligners doing their job.
You'll see your teeth move a little with each set
When treatment is done, you wear a retainer to keep your teeth where they are

Straighter teeth are also easier to brush and floss, which is good news for your gums.

At your consult, we’ll:

Check your teeth, gums, and bite
Ask what you'd like to change about your smile
Take digital X-rays if we need them
Answer your questions
Talk through cost, insurance, and CareCredit

If aligners aren’t the right fit, we’ll tell you why and talk about other options.

How long does Invisalign take?

It depends on how much your teeth need to move. Dr. Horton will give you an estimate at your consult, once your scan is done.

How much does Invisalign cost in Fort Collins?

Every case is different, so we’ll go over the cost with you at your consult, before you start anything. We accept insurance and CareCredit, and some dental plans cover part of orthodontic treatment.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Most people feel some pressure for a day or two when they switch to a new set of aligners. It usually fades quickly.

Can I eat and drink with my aligners in?

Take your aligners out to eat and to drink anything other than water. Brush your teeth before you put them back in.

Do you offer braces?

No. Invisalign is the only way we straighten teeth at Horton Family Dental. If you need braces, we can recommend an orthodontist.
